ANIE: SANURA and Its Financial Partners Keep Operating on Cataracts, But the Need Remains Great

Operating on cataracts in Togo. SANURA knows the way. This is not a first. This is not a publicity stunt. It is a habit, a conviction, a quiet and regular battle against preventable blindness. And this time again, thanks to the persistent advocacy of the association with its financial partners, several new cases have just been operated on 03, May 2026 in ANIE, a locality in Togo where light sometimes takes too long to arrive.

The financial partner who answered the call for this new phase is Helping Hand for Relief and Development. Once again, they said yes. Once again, SANURA identified elderly patients, often isolated, those who could no longer see the faces of their grandchildren, those who walked hesitantly, those who had lost hope. Then came the transport, the pre-operative consultations, the surgical procedures, fifteen to thirty minutes each ,and the medication. All of it, free of charge. Thanks to Helping Hand. Thanks to SANURA.

« I could no longer see my grandchildren. Today, I look at them and cry with joy, » shared a patient operated on in ANIE, her eyes still moist. This testimony says it all: cataracts are not a fate, but a silent injustice that can be repaired at low cost.

Yet, despite these successes, the need remains great. Very great. Every week, SANURA receives calls from families reporting a father, a mother, a grandparent who has gone blind due to lack of surgery. In rural Togo, dozens of people grow old in darkness because information does not circulate, because money is lacking, because healthcare facilities are too far away. Cataracts can be treated. But we need willing partners. And funding.

SANURA deeply thanks Helping Hand for their commitment. But the association calls on other partners, other companies, other donors. Because in ANIE, and elsewhere in Togo, many eyes are still waiting to see the light again.
