Yélivo: Inauguration and Handover of 85 Modern Housing Units to Local Communities with Support from Abdullah Aid

Activities under the inspection and monitoring mission of projects funded by Abdullah Aid in Togo continued on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, with the official inauguration and handover of 85 modern housing units to the population of Yélivo, marking a significant milestone in humanitarian and development cooperation.

The ceremony was attended by traditional authorities, including the Village Chief and the Canton Chief, alongside administrative and government officials. All speakers unanimously praised the quality, relevance, and vision of the project, highlighting its strong focus on human dignity and sustainable development.

Several authorities emphasized that this project stands apart from many previous initiatives led by Muslim organizations, which were often limited to the construction of mosques. While acknowledging the importance of faith-based initiatives, they stressed that communities are equally in need of development-oriented projects that directly improve living conditions. The Yélivo housing project was therefore commended as a concrete and impactful response to these needs.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Minister OURO-SAMA, Mayor of the Tchaoudjo 1 Commune, stated that the modern housing units offered to the population align fully with the vision of His Excellency Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBÉ, President of the Council, which aims to restore dignity, decent living conditions, and social equity for every Togolese citizen.
He warmly congratulated and thanked Abdullah Aid for the various forms of support provided to the most vulnerable populations, and also praised the local partner, SANURA Association, for its commitment, selflessness, and high-quality work. He further encouraged young people to follow this exemplary path of service and engagement.

In his address, the representative of Abdullah Aid called on the population to fear and thank Allah, emphasizing that the realization of the project was made possible by divine will rather than human merit alone. He reaffirmed Abdullah Aid’s commitment to continue, with Allah’s permission, to support vulnerable communities to the best of the organization’s capacity.

The beneficiaries expressed their joy through traditional songs, dances, and horse racing, demonstrating their gratitude and hope. During these celebrations, community members also voiced additional priority needs, particularly the construction of a health center.

It is worth recalling that the project consists of 85 housing units, each equipped with a private kitchen, internal toilet, and shower, and supplied with electricity through solar panels. The entire site is served by two boreholes, ensuring sustainable access to potable water.

Following the inauguration ceremony, activities on February 1st, 2026, continued with an inspection visit of boreholes and wells constructed with the support of Abdullah Aid. This visit took place in the presence of the Worldwide Program Coordinator and the Administrative Manager of Abdullah Aid. During this session, several community members presented additional requests and appeals, which are currently under review and awaiting a favorable response.

This mission once again highlights the tangible impact and sustainability of Abdullah Aid’s interventions in Togo, as well as the strength of its partnership with SANURA Association, working together to improve the living conditions and dignity of vulnerable communities.
