Cataract Surgery in Kougnowou: SANURA Restores Sight to a Hundred People with Support from Helping Hand
On October 11th and 12th, 2025, the community of Kougnowou, located in the Plateaux Region of Togo, witnessed an inspiring humanitarian initiative. The SANURA Association, with the financial support of its partner Helping Hand for Relief and Development, successfully carried out 100 cataract surgeries for people from underprivileged backgrounds.
This initiative, which marks SANURA’s third cataract surgery campaign in Togo, reflects the association’s ongoing commitment to improving access to healthcare for vulnerable populations. Thanks to the dedication of its volunteers and medical team, many beneficiaries have been able to regain their sight, offering them a renewed sense of independence and dignity.
“To see again is to live again. We are grateful to bring hope and light back to our elders and all those who have long suffered in silence,” said a member of SANURA’s field team.
Beyond the surgical operations, the campaign also served as an opportunity to raise awareness about eye health, hygiene, and the importance of early screening for vision-related diseases.
However, the needs remain high. Many cases identified in Kougnowou and neighboring communities are still awaiting assistance. Aware of this reality, SANURA is launching an appeal for solidarity and partnership to continue this noble mission and extend its efforts to other regions of the country.

With the support of Helping Hand and the unwavering dedication of its members, SANURA reaffirms its commitment to serving the most vulnerable and restoring hope and vision to those in need.
