HDF Becomes One with the Togolese Landscape: Clean Water, School Sanitation, and Meals for Pilgrims
The first half of May 2026 will be remembered as an intense sequence of humanitarian action for SANURA and its faithful financial partner, Human Development Fund (HDF). Within just a few days, three major projects were launched in different localities across Togo, significantly strengthening HDF’s visibility in the Togolese landscape and, most importantly, sustainably improving the living conditions of hundreds of people.

In the commune of Tchaoudjo, SANURA and HDF continued their shared commitment to guaranteeing access to clean water. A new borehole was inaugurated, adding to a series of initiatives aimed at freeing women and children from long daily walks to often unsafe water points. Water is life. It is also the end of the many waterborne diseases that still strike far too many Togolese families.

But access to water is not enough without proper sanitation infrastructure. That is why the same partnership enabled the inauguration of a brand-new sanitary block at Lycée Tchalo, a school attended by hundreds of young people. This facility aims to strengthen hygiene and sanitation, provide decent toilets for girls and boys, and most importantly, drastically reduce open defecation, a silent scourge that poisons life in rural and school communities. Fewer diseases, more dignity. That is the promise of SANURA and HDF.

And because solidarity knows no season, SANURA also launched an appeal to support Togolese pilgrims. Every year, hundreds of faithful from all regions of the country gather at the Maison du Hadj, waiting to embark for the holy sites. During this sometimes long and trying wait, eating properly becomes a challenge. To this appeal, HDF responded with love and generosity. One thousand hot meals were offered to the pilgrims, allowing them to experience this waiting period in dignified and fraternal conditions.

A borehole in Tchaoudjo, a sanitary block at Lycée Tchalo, meals for pilgrims: three actions, one partner, one vision. HDF strengthens its visibility in Togo not through posters or slogans, but through concrete, sustainable, and human actions. SANURA warmly thanks HDF for its continued trust and invites them, as well as other partners, to keep investing in the development of Togolese communities. Because water, hygiene, and dignity are not luxuries. They are rights.
